Crackerjack.

Hijack... Hi, Jack! (Lo-jack?)

Flapjack.

Blackjack... The gum, that is!

Jackrabbit.

Jackalope.

Jack of all trades.

Jackass.

Quicker than you can say, "Jack Robinson."

Jack up.

Jack shit.

Jack around.

...and, of course... Jack OFF!

What's up with "Fuchs" ? That's a real surname.

I figure people with that name must fall into one of two categories:

(a) they change it as soon as they're old enough
(b) they like to mess with people so they keep it.

In a prior life I worked at a bank and there was a customer whose first name was Cleandress. That wouldn't be so terrible if she pronounced it CleANdress but, no, I'm told it was Clean-dress.

As many of my friends know the expression "Dick by name ,Dick by nature!" is often heard round these parts.

What greater compliment can be paid than that! [Big Grin]

Regarding the name Fuchs- When Dr. Fuchs set off on his first Antarctic expedition in the 50s the Liverpool Daily Post carried the following headline DR. FUCHS OFF TO SOUTH ICE . Next year he sailed again and both the Post and the Daily Express reported FUCHS OFF AGAIN. These gems and many more can be found in one of my favourite old Christmas presents- a paperback called "Keep Taking The Tabloids" by Fritz Spiegl - Pan Books 1983

Fuchs is German for fox. Actually pronounced "fooks" (with a short oo as in look), but it is easy too see it can lead to calamitous results in an English language context.

The "R" is for Richard (family has always gone by middle names, something about it looking dignified with an initial in front of your name)...anyway this was an open door for my classmates in high school to yell phallic references down the hall with little fear of repercussion. "What's up Dick?" was the favorite to which I often reply "Just that".
