Personally I think spybot search & destroy has overtaken adaware in the spyware department, though it can't hurt to run both (since it's possible that what one misses the other catches). I esp like spybot's "immunize" function which automatically fixes a lot of browser-related attacks and creates entries in your hosts file for bad webpages so that those nefarious sites can't hurt you.
