It's supposed to be the person who had the greatest influence on world events yet they stubbornly refuse include "bad" people, having not had one since, I think, the Ayatollah Khomeini in 1980. Clearly in 2001 Osama bin Laden had a greater impact on world events than did Rudy Guiliani. It's not even arguable. And I would have had Hitler for Person of the Century, not Einstein. Einstein's importance may still be growing but insofar as a single person (many worked on the A-bomb and nuclear power) Hitler shaped 20th century events more. Not just the war and the Holocaust but the division of Europe and the cold war can be blamed on him as well. If they mean these things to be honoraries then they should say so and stop pretending. Joe, you have probably heard more Dylan songs/poems than you realize...many artists covered his songs much better than he did himself...his singing voice isn't so good. In a muscial sense...Little Richard should have been on such a list as should James Brown. They not only were popular but changed the way music sounded and influenced those that came after. For the Sports thing (or heros)...to not have Babe Ruth is a mistake. For all time, if Gauss isn't on the list, the list is very flawed. Steve  |  IP: Logged Mike Olpin Chop Chop! Also the person from whom Jenifer borrowed the oppening post of this thread (The Crazy Ones) Steve Wozniac - Designed and built the afformentioned computer. Ed Catmul -- The first to Pioneer 3D computer graphics with his short film "The Hand" Alvey Ray Smith -- together with Ed, concieved of using a computer to create full length feature films. John Lasseter -- Created some of the worlds first computer animated NARATIVES. (not just pretty graphics, but using the graphics to create characters and tell a story.) Also directed the first full-length feature animated film, Toy Story, for half of what it cost to create a traditional feature. Pushed the artform forward, even when PIXAR was financially unstable. The Walt Disney of today's generation. As far as political leaders go I can't see the rationale behind including Gorbachev but not Lenin or Stalin, if the main criterion here is effecting change. After all, Gorbachev played a relatively minor role in clearing up the mess which Stalin almost single-handedly created. And if we're only allowed one film maker I'm not sure about Spielberg (I'd argue that the films of, say, John Ford or Walt Disney had a greater impact over a longer time scale, both as 'art' - whatever that's supposed to be - and entertainment), but I guess we could debate that until the cows come home.  |  IP: Logged Phil Hill I love my cootie bug Posts: 7595 From: Hollywood, CA USA Registered: Mar 2000 posted 03-09-2004 07:03 PM                  I agree with including Steve Wozniac and Nikola Tesla.
