The only real difference is who that cater to. In *MOST* states barbers have to go through the exact same classes as hairdressers, they have to learn color, perms, facials, pedicures, etc. Actually my plan is to become a barber, not a hairdresser.

Not that I know of unless you are paying for a scalp treatment...? Maybe it's just something that Barber shop does to bring clientle in, or maybe he just likes you!

You aren't the only one who did that. I took it as haircuts in salons are too expensive and thats why you get haircuts at home.
