No, it wasn't flipped upside down, inside or, wrong side out or any other incorrect way..
Chris, those cheap Rayovac batteries may be your problem.
I've only put one set of batteries (Duracell) in my wireless in about 8 months or better.

Phil, I tried using a trackball about 8 years ago, when they first hit the scene.. I hated it then.. I hate them now. I prefer tilt wheel scrolling mouse. I bought this KB/mouse combo on sale and I like it thusfar. Battery life is great, the KB feel is good and I love the tilt wheel scrolling mouse...
