It could be used as a tool for entertainment purposes but not directly used for entertainment purposes.

Summary

It is electrical
It does plug into an outlet
It does not use batteries
It can probably be found on ebay and retail stores like sam's club, wal-mart etc.
it can not be found in Phil's pants...I don't think
It is smaller than a dryer
You can put something in it
It can be found in the electronics section of wal-mart

it is not a:
DVD player
VCR
Iron
Lamp
CD Changer
Vacuum cleaner
Bowflex
You can't cook an egg with it or keep starbucks in buisiness
And it doesn't play discs larger than DVD
it is not a PC/Laptop

Is the noise it makes purely an operational noise (mechanical, hum, clanking, clicking, etc.) ?

While we're working on this, please take it out on the driveway & run over it.

Ladies and Gentlemen we have a winner!!!!!!

It is a scanner made by Canon that I bought from the local Wal-mart years ago for less than 50 bucks. Nothing special about it. Just plain and simple. Only attachment was the cable to the computer and the software that was installed.
