Then sort of stopped, for one reason or another. A few years ago, wife's mother had many, many pints in critical care unit of Methodist Hospital following a serious car accident (she died of her injuries). I started to wonder, "where's all the blood coming from?" Thus I made it a point to start donating every two months (minimum time between donations they allow). Posts: 10973 From: Lawton, OK, USA Registered: Apr 2001 posted 04-14-2005 12:38 PM                     According to the Oklahoma Blood Institute website, if you live to the age of 72 you have a 95 percent chance of needing some kind of blood product transfusion in your lifetime. I was surprised how many people need platelets. Many people being treated for cancer and leukemia need it. So to burn victims and patients being treated for a number of other conditions. Red blood cells are the most commonly transfused component (trauma victims, patients undergoing surgical procedures). My intake of coumadin on a daily basis precludes it. Anyway, my story: I tried to donate once. They had a blood drive at the highschool I went to, so a lot of the grade 12s do that, ecause it's awesome and everything. So I lied about my weight to get in (I was just a few pounds shy of the minimum ) And all went well during the donating process, wasn't till about 10 or 15 minutes after I'd been unplugged that I passed out After that I thought I should probably not do it for a while, but then I lost a lot of weight and such My dad and my sister donate quite often though. And I just figure that my family will decide whether or not I'm an organ donor after I die.
