I recall that Kinoton had a tungsten-halogen reader retrofit that used a dichroic IR blocking filter. The issue is getting enough red light from a tungsten lamp to get good S/N. You also want to filter out the green and blue light if you are trying to read a cyan track. Fading of the filters can also be an issue.
