Robert Newman, 23, assaulted the animal in a barn in Devizes, Wiltshire in April.
Newman, of Potterne Road, Devizes, initially denied the charge but later changed his plea.
Newman was jailed for six weeks for the attack, which North West Wiltshire Magistrates' Court heard had left the goat needing veterinary treatment.
At the time of the assault Newman was the subject of an eight week suspended sentence for a burglary in August last year.
Gail Chilcott, chair of the bench, activated the suspended sentence, which will run concurrently.
Anna Humphreys, prosecuting, read a victim impact statement on behalf of the goat's owner - who was not named in court.
It read: "This person has cost us a considerable amount of money because we have had to install security cameras.
"We have also had to pay for vet's fees and antibiotics for the injuries sustained by the goat."
In mitigation Anne Ellery told the court Newman's actions were a "symptom of isolation rather than depravity".
"His delay in admitting the behaviour is because of the embarrassment and shame that went with it," she added.
At least the incident didn't take place a few miles west and with a sheep...

Man Shot in Movie Theater Over Texting
WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. (AP) — An argument over texting in a Florida movie theater ended with a retired Tampa police captain fatally shooting a man sitting in front of him, authorities said.
The former police captain, Curtis Reeves, 71, has been charged with second-degree murder. It's not immediately clear whether he has retained an attorney.
"Somebody throws popcorn. I'm not sure who threw the popcorn," said Charles Cummings, who, as a birthday treat, was about to watch the movie "Lone Survivor" at The Grove 16 Theater on Monday.
"And then bang, he was shot."
Pasco County Sheriff's officials said the shooting happened when Reeves asked 43-year-old Chad Oulson to stop texting at the theater in Wesley Chapel, a suburb about a half hour north of downtown Tampa.
Reeves and his wife were sitting behind Oulson and his wife. Oulson told Reeves he was texting with his 3-year-old daughter, Cummings said.
"It ended almost as quickly as it started," said sheriff's spokesman Doug Tobin. The sheriff's office says an off-duty Sumter County deputy detained Reeves until police arrived.

Cummings and his son Alex — who both had blood on their clothes as they walked out of the theater — told a group of reporters Monday afternoon the show was still in previews when the two couples started arguing.
Cummings said the man in the back row — later identified as Reeves — got up and left the auditorium, presumably to get a manager. But he came back after a few minutes, without a manager and appearing upset. Moments later, the argument between the two men resumed, and the man in the front row stood up.
Officials said Oulson asked Reeves if he reported him to management for using his phone.
Cummings said the men started raising their voices and popcorn was thrown. Authorities said Reeves took out a gun, and Oulson's wife put her hand over her husband, and that's when Reeves fired his weapon, striking Nichole Oulson in the hand and her husband in the chest.
"I can't believe people would bring a pistol, a gun, to a movie," Cummings said. "I can't believe they would argue and fight and shoot one another over popcorn. Over a cellphone."
Cummings, who said he was a combat Marine in Vietnam, said Oulson fell onto him and his son.
"Blood started coming out of his mouth," said Alex Cummings. "It was just a very bad scene."
Charles Cummings said his son went to call 911, while Cummings and another patron who claimed to a nurse began performing CPR on the victim.
A man sitting next to the shooter grabbed the gun out of his hand, and the suspect did not attempt to get away, Cummings said.
Oulson and his wife were taken by ambulance to a Tampa-area hospital, where the Chad Oulson died, Tobin said. His wife's injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Tampa Police spokeswoman Laura McElroy said in a news release that Reeves was a captain when he retired from the department in 1993. She added that he was instrumental in establishing the agency's first tactical response team. After he retired, Reeves worked security for the Busch Gardens theme park and was on the board of a neighboring county's Crime Stoppers organization. Reeves' son also is a Tampa officer, police said.

Apologies for changing the subject, but as this one now has its own thread, I hope you'll forgive me.
We had an earthquake last night.

But Alysha Griggs of Rialto said the earthquake felt large to her, adding that it lasted about 10 seconds and "shook the whole house."
"And then my dog started going crazy," she said. "It felt pretty big."
We're 12.7 miles east of the epicenter: it woke Olivia up, but not me. However, a massive eucaplytus tree in the neighbor's yard, which was in the process of shedding its leaves but still had most of them on it, had almost all of them shaken off it by the quake. The tree was almost completely bald when I got up this morning, and there was a half-inch deep pile of leaves all over both of our yards. Wish I'd taken before and after pics, but you can't exactly predict when this sort of thing is going to happen (as Charlton Heston found out the hard way)!

Busy London commuter rail line closed because of "flooding" ... with quick-drying cement!

Thousands of rush hour commuters in London faced chaos on their way home after a major London Underground control room was flooded by a sea of cement.
A large section of the Victoria Line covering central and south London was closed following the incident early on Thursday afternoon, and was expected to remain shut throughout the evening.
Images leaked online appeared to show entire shelves of signalling equipment submerged in cement shortly after Transport for London announced that the southern section of the line was closed due to “flooding”.
Officials later admitted that the disruption had been caused by upgrade work to expand Victoria Station, which was being carried out by contractors Bam Nuttal near the Victoria Line signal control room.
It is unclear what the work involved, but TfL confirmed it included the use of water and cement which leaked into the control room and damaged signalling equipment used on the southern half of the line.
According to reports on the UsVsTh3m website, where the pictures were published, an estimated three rows of relay equipment were flooded with “fast-setting concrete”.
Shortly after 1.30pm services were suspended between Warren Street and Brixton, with severe delays on the rest of the line. The disruption was expected to continue for the remainder of the day.
The Victoria Line is one of the busiest on the London Underground network, and the section closed during rush hour covered most of central London, including stops at Oxford Circus and Victoria.
Other lines at these stations remained open, and a replacement bus service was operating at all Victoria Line stops south of Warren Street by 4.30pm.
Nigel Holness, operations director of London Underground, said: “This afternoon our contractors were working on the new station in an area next to the Victoria line signal control room. These works involved the use of water and cement which leaked into the room, damaging equipment. This has meant there are no signals working on the southern section of the line.
Yikes! Hope they managed to flush it out before it dried. If not, chiselling the cement out of those relay racks is not going to be quick or easy.

PICKENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A Pickens woman has been arrested and charged after deputies said she failed to return a Jennifer Lopez movie she rented in 2005.
Kayla Michelle Finley, 27, has been charged with failure to return a rented video cassette, according to the Pickens County Sheriff's Office.
According to warrants Finely rented Monster-In-Law from Dalton Video, which is no longer in business, in 2005 and the tape was not returned within 72 hours.
Finley was sent letters to return the video several times but never responded, according to the warrant.
A certified warrant was sent to the woman on Sept. 12, 2005.
Finely was arrested on Thursday after a record check showed the offense.
Warrants said the tape had a value of less than $1,000.
