Woman accused of mudering 'virtual husband' in MapleStory game
A JAPANESE piano teacher has been arrested on suspicion of killing her "virtual husband" after becoming enraged that he suddenly divorced her in an online game.
The 43-year-old woman allegedly hacked into a man's computer and killed off his avatar in the popular interactive game MapleStory, the Associated Press reported.
The woman, who is in custody on suspicion of illegally accessing a computer and manipulating electronic data, allegedly used the man's ID and password to log on and carry out the virtual murder in May, said a police official in the northern city of Sapporo, according to the AP.
"I was suddenly divorced, without a word of warning. That made me so angry," the police official quoted the woman as telling investigators.
The man behind the woman's online husband, a 33-year-old office worker, complained to police when he discovered that his online avatar was dead.
The woman was arrested on Wednesday, police said.
She had not yet been charged but if convicted could face up to five years in prison or a fine of up to $5000 ($7400).
MapleStory players create and manipulate avatars that represent themselves in relationships, social activities and fighting monsters and other obstacles.

Golfer records 5 holes-in-one in a week!
Five Aces!
KAPPA, Ill. – Central Illinois amateur golfer Curt Hocker is on a roll. Five rolls, to be exact. Just ask anyone at the El Paso Golf Club, where the 22-year-old has recorded five holes-in-one in the last week, including two on Saturday. In this year alone, Hocker has seven aces, five on par-4s, and two other double eagles.
"I don't know what to think," said Hocker, who works in the club's pro shop. "After each one I say it's over, and it keeps happening."
Friends and family, 15 of whom have witnessed Hocker's strokes of luck while playing with him, are equally mystified.
"It's incomprehensible this kind of luck could happen, but it does happen," said El Paso pro Steve Fulton. "There are other things in life that have been just as weird and eerie that have happened. What are the odds?"
Hocker said he's just glad that his club membership comes with "hole-in-one insurance."
That "insurance" means the club — and not Hocker — has to honor the golf tradition of buying everyone in the clubhouse a drink after an ace is made.
"I think the golf course is getting mad at me for all the drinks," Hocker said. "It's hard to talk about, but it's awesome to have it happen."

Blockage!!!!!!!!!!
All seats taken for Australia Bowen premiere If you want to read the full story click on this link http://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au/article/2008/11/08/21475_news.html
November 8th, 2008 FOUR out of every five seats at the Bowen premiere of Baz Luhrmann's epic Australia will be filled by a local. Speculation about the guest list to the hottest event in North Queensland has been mounting since the November 18 premiere was announced on Tuesday. Whitsunday Mayor Mike Brunker said the conjecture would end sometime next week with invitations set to be mailed out on Monday. Cr Brunker said Premier Anna Bligh and Tourism Minister Desley Boyle were among the first to make the list. But apart from dignitaries and media representatives, Cr Brunker said at least 80 per cent of invitations would be sent to Bowen residents. The premiere will be held at Bowen's Summergarden Cinemas which can seat just 273 people in the main theatre. Cr Brunker again would not be drawn on exactly who would receive an invitation, only to say there would be a focus on volunteers. "If you get an invitation in the mail you should feel very lucky," he said. Ironically, the man who would have the best seat in the house, cinema owner Ben De Luca, will not see much of the movie. Mr De Luca said he would be too busy `wandering around' and making sure everything was running smoothly. All 15 of Mr De Luca's staff will be working on the night. He was not taking the chance of even a minor hiccup by having a plumber on call. "I can remember some years ago when we had a toilet blockage on a big night," he said. "We took a while to get a plumber so hopefully we'll have a cure for that this time around." A sound technician from Brisbane will also be on hand to keep an eye on the cinema's state-of-the-art Dolby Digital Surround EX sound system. The $28,000 system was installed just three weeks ago especially for the release of Australia. This is from the FEEDBACK section of the paper Monday, November 10: From: Frank P. Jerkic Comment: Re: the Ralph’s View, Saturday, November 8, cartoon about the mystery guest. I think you’ll find the clue on page 9 in ‘All seats taken’. It suggests to me that the mystery guest will be Shane Jacobson (KENNY) as they need a plumber on call in case they have another toilet blockage.

Idiots name their kid Adolf Hitler...
quote: A US bakery has refused to decorate a three-year-old's birthday cake with his name - Adolf Hitler Campbell. Skip related content Related photos / videos Baker: No Cake For Little Hitler
The trouble, the New Jersey shop said, was that it was "inappropriate" to put such a name on the cake.
But the little boy's father, Heath Campbell, said it was unfair of ShopRite supermarket to turn down his request.
Heath Campbell said he named his son after Adolf Hitler because he liked the name and because "no one else in the world would have that name".
Referring to the baker's decision, he said: "They need to accept a name. A name's a name.
"The kid isn't going to grow up and do what Hitler did."
But the problem does not stop there.
The shop has also refused to make a cake for Mr Campbell's second child, who turns two next February.
Her name is JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell.
Heath and Deborah Campbell's third child will probably not get a cake from that shop either.
The eight-month-old baby has been named Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell, apparently a reference to one of the Nazi's most monstrous leaders, SS head Heinrich Himmler.
For the time being, the matter has been settled - the Campbells had their cake made by Wal-Mart.

Hewlett Packard is probably not going to win this year's customer service award.

quote: Here's a story that should help to remind you to back up all your data — even if you're just getting a key replaced on your keyboard.
Reader Marjan says HP has official policy that requires that they erase your hard drive — even if there's nothing wrong with your computer that would require them to even turn it on.
Marjan says:
The "P" key broke off my HP laptop within one month of its purchase back in April. I asked them to send me the key so I could repair it myself, but they said I must send in my entire computer.
Fast forward to December when I (graduate student) finally have the chance/luxury to send in my computer for repair.
I just got my computer back today to find my entire hard drive deleted and re-done.
Nobody at HP even told me it was a possibility (let alone a "STANDARD POLICY") that hard drives are erased when a computer is sent in for repair — regardless of the nature of the repair. Even ONE key on the keyboard. Even a little scratch apparently requires a full hard-drive erasing. Got my "P" key, but at the cost of my computer's hard drive. Unnecessary. Absurd.
I feel like a hospital patient who went in for routine surgery and woke up with an effing amputated leg.
Wasted two hours debating with four different men about why I shouldn't be punished for one idiot's inability to inform me of this supposed standard policy. I told them they had to compensate for my losses, at least by giving me a new Norton Antivirus product key because I still had time left on the warranty. But they said once the computer was shipped to me back in April, my old product key became my responsibility: It was my fault if I lost it. I demanded some sort of compensation or credit. HP had made a mistake. But they refused.
I asked to speak to somebody higher-up. But the senior technician claimed he was the highest-up person I could speak to. He breathed heavily and in an annoyed way. Said anybody higher than him was "just in charge of scheduling bathroom breaks."
I had zero knowledge and not even the slightest warning that HP would erase everything: "Just give us your log-in password in case something goes wrong," the service guy told me before I sent in my computer for repair. "But they shouldn't have to even turn your computer on."
I am fuming. Pictures, research, creative work, personal work. All gone.
What the hell do I do, or how do I even reach someone sane at HP? Thanks.
I'm not going to pretend to know if your data can be recovered, so we'll toss that one out to the crowd of seething internet — but we do have a few posts than can help you reach someone at HP.
This post is about how to get your laptop back from HP — but it contains contact information that might help you reach intelligent life.
And now here's the official obligatory moral of the story: Please remember to back up your data before sending your computer in for any kind of repair.
Now that that's out of the way, is there anything that can save this data?
