Registered: Jun 2005 posted 08-02-2006 04:32 AM                     In the 3 Asian countries that I was in Japan, Korea, and Thailand almost every order looked exactly like the picture. Like it was manufactured and built. And it was always hot and made fresh! In Japan they actually brought your food out to you at McDonalds! Posts: 4143 From: Boston, MA Registered: Apr 2002 posted 08-02-2006 05:12 AM                        When I was in Japan, we traveled around and stopped at a diner at a highway rest area - which was a very nice and clean place, not the kind of overpriced tourist dirty rip off hole you find in many other places near highways. Anyway, they had wax models of all the food at the entrance (which is very typical) and I selected a bowl of noodles which was topped with vegetables and 3 little quail eggs (I love those). When the bowl arrived, it looked exactly like the model, except it was topped with surimi (the white crab imitation stuff) instead. I asked if they didn't have the eggs anymore and what then followed was pretty incredible, almost embarassing. They apologized several times and said they should have mentioned that they were out of the eggs when I placed the order and even though I said that's OK, I just wanted to ask, I like surimi, too, they insisted that the soup and my drink were free (!).  |  IP: Logged Evans A Criswell Phenomenal Film Handler Posts: 1579 From: Huntsville, AL, USA Registered: Mar 2000 posted 08-02-2006 09:26 AM                        I've noticed that in the Sunday paper where all the ads are, they haven't been putting any coupons/ads for non-fast-food restaurants like Red Lobster and Longhorn Steakhouse like they used to, but they're putting a few for fast food places like Quiznos. It has repeatedly irked me that I'd see a picture of a sandwich that looks like it would be served at a nice restaurant and it's just a Quiznos ad. Fast food places want to mislead people as much as they can about the appearance and quality of their food. I've had terrible luck with fast food and seldom eat it, and choose better places to eat instead. I've noticed that the newer more upscale fast-food places have food that costs as much as the food does in full-service restaurants, so why pay the same if you have to spend time running around to get everything. Full-service works better when meeting people because you all get to sit down together and talk and you don't run the risk of the first ones to sit down with food being done eating by the time the last one works through the line. Slicing the bun open and stuffing as much into it as you want and can doesn't take any longer than standing there and waiting for the minimum wage employee to do it. Then all you have to do is put it in the oven. It's also much, much cheaper, looks better than any of the pictures and you can really configure your sub exactly the way you like. Just remember which ingredients you want to bake and which you don't. It doesn't taste good with baked salad...  |  IP: Logged Michael Schaffer "Where is the Boardwalk Hotel?"
