When you are married you tend to forget about that crazy in love feeling you get when you first meet somebody that will make you do things that you would never do otherwise. In my experience it seems to be too difficult to get someone to meet you in person. I've only met one girl in person from the internet in all the time I have had it. As far as I am concerned if a girl is not willing to give you her phone # by the third email then she probably never will and certainly will not meet you. You also have to realize that girls get tons of emails from random guys everday. Try setting up a fake myspace page, with no information, just a picture of a decent looking girl. Girls generally get one email for every 5-10 profile views. I get about 1 for every 1000 views and they are not the type of girl I would go for. The good news is that most guys just say something dumb like "hey baby, your hot." or "I'm new around here, want to show me around?" I suppose on a pay service like Match the ratio is less, but you still have to be somewhat creative in your messages. Yahoo seems to be full of fake profiles, or the people do not pay for the service but can still access their account but cannot respond to emails. On yahoo I emailed back and forth with one girl and got all excited, and then after about 2 weeks of emails I finally said something like "here's my # let's get together for coffee if you'd like" and then she's all "well Im in a relationship I wish to pursue...". Although I still email with her on myspace I still have yet to meet up with her just as friends. On Match, the first one I talked to on the phone gave me her # after 2 or 3 emails and we had a nice chat and were to meet up, but then she got a job offer in MN and said she didn't want to start up anything so we never met up. And yeah she actually did get the job as her profile changed a few months later (so she wasn't lying or anything). I went out with 2 other girls on match, and in both cases I got really excited after the first meetup as both went really well, but in one case I got the "lets be friends as I dont think you're ready to drop everything and run away and travel with me yet", which is ironic cause since then she's said she wont travel without her dog, so she can't exactly drop everything and leave herself? (she wants to do a peace corp/volunteering gig in addition to taking some months off and seeing the world). In the other case which I felt more confident about, she said our interests were too different, which I felt was a crock of BS. I learned that's its best not to get all excited like Richard did earlier in the thread as he said he hadn't even met her in person. The "personality profile" test is set up to see how similar you are to Ned Flanders. If you fail that test it will not let you create a profile. I fully support any private company or institution's right to discriminate on any basis, but they should at least be honest about it. Here is a spoof commercial that Bill Maher did a few weeks ago. Sorry bout the lack of posting...lots going on... Update: She was scheduled to come down on the 5th...on the 3rd, she IM'ed me. I'll summarize what she said. She first told me to stop making the plans. Then she asked if I remembered me telling her to tell her friends about us. I did and then she said "I did and one of them told my mother" So now her mother found out. She then said that her mom drained her bank account and told her that she flat out couldn't come down to see me. She said her mom would make sure she didn't leave. I then told her that she still had a free ride down here.(No expenses for her unless she wanted souviners) She then said that she should be angry with her mom, but wasn't. and insisted that it wasn't her fault what had happened....riiiggghhhtt... I told her that I was glad that I found out I was talking to someone who couldn't decide for themselves now than after she got down here... So, basically I haven't heard from her since and really don't care. I'm pissed that the 3+ months I invested talking with her were for naught, but you write off your losses and move on. BTW: I found the song "I Can't Hate You Anymore" by Nick Lachey describes how I feel 100%...Read the lyrics, it's really good. Then Lynn wrote to me after the profile had been up for a year or more. (I'd almost forgotten about it!) She had to pay $15 to get my contact info. She was only 100 miles from me so I decided to check out her reply. I remember being impressed with how nice of a note she wrote. I e-mailed back, and we got together 2 weeks later. We've now been together around 7 years; we got engaged one year after our first date and got married in June 2000. So the 'net CAN work.
