One of the regulars of the "Don & Mike" radio show collects microphones, and that particular one was a holy grail for him. I wasn't aware that it actually had a name. FWIW, I'd have loved to have met Gene Rayburn. In spite of my jabs, he sorta looks like he could be related to my father--second cousins at the closest, though. Mike, are you old enough to remember Bob Barker from his prior show, "Truth or Consequences"? I've only seen him on PIR since the early 80s as a youngster... I probably have seen TOC on the Gameshow network at one time or another. The premise is so simple, there's absolutely zero skill involved, lots of nice eye candy. It's a pleasant diversion. Some of the contestants are a little too obnoxious though. His teeth are just so damned perfect! And what a name--Wink! Bob Eubanks fascinated me too. That hair of his. I was really little when "The Newlywed Game" was first on, and nobody would explain to me exactly what "whoopie" was. Apparently, for me, it comes down to whether or not the host has some kind of outstanding physical feature. If so, I'm watching. So far, Howie's bald head isn't unusual enough for me, but I can appreciate the attraction of the show itself. There should be a mention here for Johnny "Come on down!" I'll have to TiVo it until we see your appearances. Doubt I'll get on "Deal" although I did do the phone thing to get on "...Millionaire." I only got through once, and got all the questions right, but never got the next-day call. OMG, we watched that show all the time! My mother purely loved Bob Barker. Remember the "Truth or Consequences" theme music? Anyone know the title? It's from some production library (maybe Valentino, could be Capitol). I know of a couple different trailers that used it, too. The music is called "Stop Gap," composed by Wilfred Burns. I have it on a CD called "Music for TV Dinners," full of great production music like that. What a great theme! You can hear a small segment here. Just scroll down to the sample list. At 88 years old, he is STILL alive and kicking and he occasionally comes out of semi-retirement to do voiceovers and announcement gigs! He is so ubiquitously famous that after all these years, people STILL refer to the generic off-screen announcer as the "Don Pardo". He is the original voice of, "LIVE! From New York!
