I think that's really silly, when it's not something which somehow came up for historical reasons, but which was "created" - probably for a lot of money - by some marketing dudes. I still don't understand why Telluride is "the town without a bellyache". That's because the town "sprouted like magic" after the railroad went through there. Butte has been called "The Richest Hill On Earth" due to a gigantic open copper mine there. The mine was closed and abandoned long ago but never "reclaimed," leaving a huge toxic pit...which has led people to call it "The Richest Hole on Earth." Miles City has been known as "The Cowboy Capital of the World." This is mostly because they hold the "world famous Miles City Bucking Horse Sale" there every May. I guess the event IS world-famous among people who care about bucking horses. Great Falls is called "The Electric City." Missoula is "The Queen City." Not sure where either of those came from, but they're also decades-old slogans. And my town has been called "The City of Trees" for at least 50 years. Some locals are referring to the non-natives here as North Floridiots! The Chamber is also using "Little Rock - America's Newest Destination". I find that one hilarious because most people I know are scared to death to come to Little Rock, (damn you HBO and your gang-warfare specials). Thank God for Mississippi Seriously, Little Rock is a beautiful city on the water and they take their outdoors really seriously. We are home to the world's largest bridge dedicated to pedestrian foot and bike traffic. I've only read on Wikipedia and in our big newspaper that its famous and the most windy in Canada, if not North America. I created this for the small town I live in: Too much free time on my hands, but I thought it was clever. The picture represents our riding arena, which is a half-pipe type building ("Zipperlok"). The Mayor defended that reference when CMT did a special from the Temple Theatre stage for a documentary on songs with city names. Several dozen citizens came on stage to sing the song for the cameras.
