He complained only about the projector "..of being old" and mentioned "an American" installer, probably you. Now I have enough curiosity to ask him for more info. Having attended the original anouncement for the construction of the center, almost 10 years ago, I had the impression that it was going to be if not two (the original anouncement)at least one IMAX 70/15 screen, with imax projector instead of the 70/8 Megasystems current installation. Now you can shed some light about the quality of the projector. Since I haven't been there and not having seen the equipment I can't belive in rumors. The place is open now, and from what I hear people are impressed. You also installed the first dts XD-10 in Greece there. Aside the work, I hope you had time to visit local taverns and restaurants, Thessaloniki is famous for its traditional delicatessen. Was the projector set up for reel-to-reel? (Can't imagine trying to run off platters for that.) On my second trip there, they showed me where all the paint was peeling off inside the lamphouse. It was actually a bad powdercoating from the factory (Strong). I think a replacement lamphouse was sent, and that was when the other rick went(I think I was in China at the time). When I work in Thessaloniki, I stay in Perea, a great little town on the waterfront. Yes, I frequented many restaurants and taverns during my stays there. Great food and beautiful sights to see. Hopefully I'll be back. I'm planning a trip to China and now I'm thinking service trips,..... Europe.....Egypt....China. It all makes sense in my mind. I'll take you up on that beer!!! I wanted to just bring in some reel arms, but they insisted that it was no problem to wait between each reel. I just did the "thread behind the tailout" routine anyway and had the next reel up almost instantly. Compared to some of the other screenings that have been discussed in this thread, this was a fairly low-budget affair (no Dolby techs, no backup print), but went well nonetheless. It was encouraging to see an audience full of people who dressed up for a show in a single-screen house. This gives me hope for the future of the exhibition business. Everyone involved with this film (from the director on down) has been truly great to work with. I'm sorry, it was Superman III (the one with Richard Pryor). It was billed as a world premiere, with NY and LA. And since you've brought it up...what was the significance of Lexington, KY to justify a premiere? Was part of "Superman III" filmed there? Actually, it was some kind of benefit the film company got involved with. That's about all I remember. This was an 1,100-seat single-screen showplace that ran 14 different movies a week, and we were always having some kind of special show or event. By the time this picture came along I'd already run a couple of world premieres, so it was almost like another print to me.  |  IP: Logged Bill Enos Film God Posts: 2081 From: Richmond, Virginia, USA Registered: Apr 2000 posted 05-13-2007 06:57 PM                     Ran "Doug's First Movie" first public screening they said it was a premiere, screened "The New World" the night after Steve's screening at the Kimball in Wmsbg, attendance was by invite only they called it a "second premiere". On that one the studio person was fanatical on focus, finally each time he called for a tweak, I replied "how's that" and didn't touch the knob, after 3 or 4 he said it was perfect!
