When I ever get filthy rich, please remind me that I should leave everything to a foundation or other organization which does good, and nothing to my children so they have to work for a living and get educated and acquire skills by studying and hard work, so that they become real people with character and format, and not a piece of crap with an inexhaustible bank account which films itself screwing around so that people can watch that on the net, and which doesn't have the dignity of standing up for its mistakes. I don't think I could live with having offspring like that. Well, OK, by that time I will be dead anyway, and that is probably better that way.

I couldn't agree more Louis! At the very minimum she needs to go out with those sentenced to Community Service, be dressed up in an orange outfit and be made to clean up trash along the highways [thumbsup]

Thats all standard jail stuff they all normally watch... What she needs to watch is "Double Indemnity" so at least she knows she can't get away with murder.

I disagree with Michael about leaving my personal fortune to some kind of "foundation." I would hope to be the kind of parent who teaches his kids to be as responsible and successful and I've been. I would hope to pass my own character on to the kids so that it would be my pleasure to pass my wealth along as well.

I don't know how Paris Hilton was raised... but... someone did a horrible job of preparing her for the real world and, especially, how to handle wealth and fame. I met Trump's daughter earlier this year and, if nothing else, the woman knows how to handle her own life. (And I think she's a better person than her father anyway.) There would be no danger in leaving the family fortune to her.

So... the idea of leaving my wealth to a "foundation" just seems to underscore a sense of neglect. "Let someone else teach my kids what they should know and do. I don't want to."

I think Paris is handling the wealth part pretty good. She's her own "brand"; she has perfumes, bags, tv shows, movies, etc. The fame part she seems to work pretty well. As for preparing for "real life" well what can you expect from a billionaire heiress?

One thing doesn't have anything to do with the other. Not leaving them a shitload of money they have done nothing for doesn't mean not teaching them stuff. I am confused by what gives you that idea.
In fact, that would be lesson 1. "You want stuff? Go work for it."

Providing a financially secure and comfortable environment in which to grow up in as such is already a luxury a lot of people never had.
If I had that much money, I would get them a good education and nothing else and use the money maybe to give many other less priviledged kids a chance, provided they show they deserve it.

I sometimes wonder if paying employees better while one is alive might be a better strategy than hoarding a huge amount of money and then giving it to a foundation when one dies.

Now that's an interesting idea. Pay the people who do the work that produces the products and services that bring in the money, that pays the upper manegment's salary. ...no that will never catch on.
