I reach the end of my first career in June, 2008. I will retire from teaching with 35-years. I will have a pension and health benefits. I don't plan on stopping work...just stop public school teaching.

My wife will be retiring at the same time. She has some opportunities in retail and I would like to work in computer repair or web design, both things I am good at and enjoy. The nice thing about this is that we can take work we like to do and not have to worry about a constant income.

I hope to retire by age 65. I would love to by 60 but who knows. I imagine a lot of travel but more likely I will enjoy family time with grandkids etc. I really hope to have a street rod built. I'll probably catch a lot of football games in the winter and racing events in the summer.

They way my wife spends money I will be working till I am 100!

projection is hard on the knees mine are not real flash now , film cans up the stairs , also another issue, however don't forget Digital Projection will fix all that for us aging operators !

I'm on a 10 year plan as of now... Assuming all works out as planned, I'll travel the US in a 40' motorcoach with the bikes in the back and a Mini Coop behind..

I'm 6 months into the plan... I'll report back in a year...

I'm with you Mark: when I retire, I want to travel the world and take photos. I just returned from a trip to Paris, had a great time and shot lots of photos.

There are some people who need to be employed to feel viable. I think I have enough interests to keep life very interesting.

While I'd love to retire now, I don't think I have the bucks yet to retire in style. So I think I'll be working at least a few more years. Probably the next time I can't find work, I'll just start calling myself "retired" instead of "unemployed."

I retired in 2003 at age 57 when my employer offered a buyout that I just could not refuse. Prior to that I had been considering leaving within the next year or so. Since retiring I have found that I can be as busy as I want to be; but on my terms now. We did several cruises as a prelude to the travel we will continue when my wife finally decides to retire. About a year ago my former employer contracted me to come in and teach some classes. I do that maybe twice a week and now find that my time is almost totally booked with different activities. When I was full time people speculated about retiring but expressed concern about what they would do with their time. Trust me, there is life after work. The only advice I could give to those who are starting out now, is to invest steadily into an IRA or 401K. That way you will have the financial stability to be able to retire in style.

I retired 7 years ago at age 52 when we sold our last two theatres. Although that was decent money I already had the funds from selling our family business (broadcast properties)so that made it a lot easier. Retirement is nice but not what it's cracked up to be IMO.
It gets a little boring trying to stay busy so I agreed to gave a hand to a friend who owns a pipe organ building company. I might get a couple of days every week working with him. I mean how many time can you mow the yard in the week??? [Confused]

Also bought an RV so I'm doing some traveling now and then.
All in all I can't complain too much.

Many people who retire early seem to die early, so sod it, work forever and live forever!
