Just got back from a golf outing at McCormick Ranch in Scottsdale (four days, four golf courses). It will be a month or so before the grass turns green at 5000' and later higher. I got serious about golf last summer; new clubs, took some lessons, played 30=35 rounds or so and got a new attitude. I knocked 20+ strokes off my long-time score of around 110. 85-90 isn't that impressive but I'm sure having a good time. I'll never be very good, but I look forward to the challenge of getting the ball in the hole with as few strokes as possible every time I play. The golf industry is taking a hit like almost everywhere else. Fewer people are playing fewer rounds. This means that you can get a tee time in many places where it used to be difficult and you can play for less money than in the past. Seeing there are so many sedentary old (and younger) coots here that look like they could use a pleasant walk in the woods, I recommend the social and often frustrating game of golf.  |  IP: Logged John Wilson Film God Posts: 5438 From: Sydney, Australia. I know he's played at Scottsdale, but not recently. I tried to learn, but I never could get the 'hang' of it. Since I'm a very analytical person, I was very good at sizing up putts. But when it came to "driving" or whatever you call it - - people would run for cover- - if I managed to hit the ball at all. I didn't dislike the game, I just SUCKED at it! It's a shame too, since I live within walking distance of what's probably one of the most scenic courses in the USA. This is the Lincon Park Golf Course in San Francisco. They have one of the world's biggest water hazards- SF Bay! I took this picture on a recent walk. I've been walking this course a lot lately since I'm recovering from some surgery and haven't been able to work for the past 3 weeks. The Doc's say walking is best thing for me right now. And this is a nice, scenic walk & I meet lotsa nice people. (and the clubhouse isn't a bad place to grab lunch!)  |  IP: Logged
