The cheapest fare Delta's website is quoting is £584 to Atlanta - still over £200 more than KLM/NW to DC. So that plus the chance to visit my friend and see a little bit of Washington on the weekend before heading south clinched the deal! Booked it while that price was still there. Will bear the tip in mind for next time, though.
