Author Topic: Cinespia Cemetery screenings Frank Angel Film God Posts: 5305 From: Brooklyn NY USA Registered: Dec 1999 posted 07-21-2008 10:16 AM                        I am with you Scott -- scared the hell out of me. I've already experienced a public screening (and humilation), albeit with only some 150 kids and parents, not 3500, and a freezing, stuttering DVD; I swore I wouldn't ever be in that position again. At least in the park we did have two players and two copies running simultaniously thru a switcher -- I could call up either one at any time. And I made sure to play both copies from start to finish before prior to the show, just to make sure there was no hint of any defects. But as far as the image quality, each copy was as bad as the other. When you are running film, any number of things can go wrong, but you can deal with them. With DVD, you are at the mercy of the pits on the DVD and the laser. Anything goes wrong with a DVD playback -- image starts to pixilate, or freezes altogether, and you're just an idiot sitting there with a stupid remote control in your hand, pressing the damn PLAY button until you stop the blood circulation in your fingers. If won't pass the bad spot and if you are unlucky enough not to be running a backup, you are doomed. Oh yah, better get yourself a PRO DVD player and not some consumer crap with unbalanced audio outs, unless of course you and five teckies want to spend 3 hours trying to eliminate ground loop hum. Actually 3500 is a smallish crowd for us.
