The theatre I started at I had a guy train me to lick the film to find the emulsion (I never did, and hope that dies with him). Can someone explain the THX portion? I've seen our booth tech come in and test levels with our Dolbys with his laptop filled with sliders and EQs and white/pink/lavender noise levels... but that is that odd microphone device actually a tool? Or some jab at THX that I'm not getting? I have just a question: What is the name and model of the microphone multiplexer witch used in this funny video to "equalising" the auditorium ? Back in the very dark ages, there were five reel cases (ugh), even though rarely used. One of the theater circuits headquartered in Oklahoma City had their own delivery trucks. When they got a five-reeler from an exchange, they would drop them off the roof of their four story building to damage them beyond future use.  |  IP: Logged Brad Miller Administrator Posts: 17775 From: Plano, TX (36.2 miles NW of Rockwall) Registered: May 99 posted 01-04-2009 12:46 PM                     The point of the THX bit wasn't aimed specifically at THX, but making the point that the entire purpose of EQing an auditorium is to calibrate the system to the specific speakers used and the room acoustics. By measuring the sound coming out of that little 4 inch speaker, in essence the system would be "calibrated" to the booth monitor...and not what the audience hears. That is why the Dolby EQ sliders are all maxed out at the low and high frequencies, because those frequencies are not properly reproduced by the booth monitor and the sliders are (incorrectly) being turned up to compensate. As such in tuning the auditorium in this manner, it makes the EQ much, much, much worse than doing nothing at all. Its just more techie dry humor in action.  |  IP: Logged Gerard S.
