I saw that one on a few marquees. A recent one I encountered was an inquiry about FilmGuard. The writer said that he was "interested in your produce". (In fairness the e is close to the t, and a spell checker wouldn't have caught it.)

As a way of introduction (and a little excuse [Wink]

): I'm no native English speaker so there surely are some grammar/spelling/syntax mistakes in what I'm about to write (though the examples in the posts above certify to the fact that even educated people have problems constructing their speech).

Whatever complaints you've written here, however well-grounded and actually needed they may sound, let's come clear about one thing: you cannot stop the river! Language is constantly evolving, like it or not. What some time ago seemed unthinkable (e.g. "he DON'T")is so common nowadays.

And I'm not judging it: the process is just happening. If you want to communicate effectively you have to learn new thing(like these LOL, ROTFL etc.) to be able to UNDERSTAND. The idea is to get to know what's going on as far as your language is concerned and at the same time appreciate what you value most about the language you use (be it super-correct grammar, sophisticated vocabulary and so on).

While there's truth to what you say, the other side of the argument would be "If you want to communicate effectively, you should learn how to read, write, and speak correctly."

Yes guys, I'm a man of few words... [Roll Eyes]

I posted a cleaver comeback to Mike's post on the dowser spelling and it was posted correctly. Then when I went to edit it for a typo, it got all jumbled and unreadable. So I deleted it all. [uhoh]

Here's one I've heard a lot on TV, "Our new car uses three times less fuel than our old car." Or, "Our new computer is five times smaller than the previous model." Somehow, that just doesn't sound right to me from a mathematical perspective. I think I know what they mean but I'm convinced they're not saying it correctly.

Sadly, I believe my reference to the "Engrish" web site back on page 2 of this thread was hardly noticed.

People, get over yourselves. Point your web browser at Engrish and start having some belly laughs at how American pop cultural slang language can be totally butchered. It is a riot. You are screwing yourself if you refuse to take a peek. DO IT!!
