Music for Films and Before and After Science are classics. For myself: Moby Grape: "8:05" from Moby Grape. Beautiful song with a lot of memories attached to it. Bob Dylan: "Is Your Love in Vain" from Street Legal. Great track from one of the worst engineered albums in history. Rolling Stones: "2000 Light Years From Home" from Their Satanic Majesties Request. Laugh if you want, but I say it's a very underrated album. Love: "Maybe the People Would Be the Times" from Forever Changes. Derek and the Dominoes: "Thorn Tree in the Garden" from Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs. Joan Baez: "Winds of the Old Days" from Diamonds and Rust. Oasis: "Don't Look Back in Anger" from What's the Story Morning Glory". Page France: "Chariot" from Hello Dear Wind. Talking Heads: "Slippery People" and "Once in a Lifetime". The best and most innovative band to come out of the eighties, bar none. I was so happy when I saw Psycho Killer was on Rock Band 2 hoping it would make a few new fans. I remember first watching Roseanne and recognizing John Goodman as the guy from the Wild Wild Life video. The audio tracks play on a regular CD player but the video can only be played on a PAL Laserdisc player. The 12 inch version of Close To Me included there has never been put on another CD to my knowledge). "What's Your Name" - Depeche Mode [1981] (When the individual albums like Speak and Spell disappear from availability, and all remain are greatest hits compilations, this wonderfully cute song will be lost). That album is a small masterpiece. Hardly unknown or hidden, but only recently caught my attention: "Don't Dream It's Over" by Crowded House. A great song. Am currently exploring other Crowded House stuff. Neil Finn = I guess I was off the grid when Crowded House was big. Evans: There's a used vinyl shop near where I work that has a ton of Depeche Mode albums, like an entire DM collection someone sold. It is amazing - a real treasure - but I never looked into them more. A recent concert HDNet was showing reminded me of Robert Smith's creepy yet somehow magnetizing personality. I wore out that CD and loved Faith No More's version. Too bad they are no more... Speaking of remakes, I always loved Marilyn Manson's version of Sweet Dreams. Gave the song a whole new meaning. Some of my other favorite covers are Jimi Hendrix's All Along The Watchtower (duh), Chili Pepper's Higher Ground and Metallica's Sabbra Cadabra. Some of my least favorite (translated as these "artists" should be taken out back and shot for ruining great songs) are Behind Blue Eyes by Limp Bizkit, Come Together by Aerosmith and Sweet Child of Mine by Sheryl Crow.
