Historically, Mickey has been a bit of crafty mouse in his yute. Even through Fantasia he didn't do as he was told. Posts: 12814 From: Annapolis, MD Registered: Dec 1999 posted 11-29-2009 03:24 PM                     I don't think WDW will be hurt significantly by Harry Potter...though I don't think Harry Potter will need new books to fuel the engine...I haven't seen its fan base drop. New kids each day join it and the older ones don't seem to let it drop. WDW is still THE destination for those seeking a theme park in Orlando. Universal can only support but so many days of activities, as can Sea World. WDW can exhaust one's finances before "doing it all." I think the Harry Potter stuff will turn some more days into Universal though and certainly boost their entire park a bit. But, in a sense, Universal survives because the mouse is down the road to begin with. There was an article in Time a month or so ago regarding them. So it's no wonder they're digging up every last thing they can to market. The only aspect of Disney showing any major profit at all are the teen flicks and the Cable TV stuff. Everything else is way way way down. Park attendance is 28% down itself and Pixar aside they have not had a big money maker film in ages. Both the economy and stupid film decisions have hit them hard. They're just one major hit away from being right back on top again. They all go thru this kind of slump now and then. Universal isn't exactly having a banner year either. I think Disney's Orlando parks will get helped by Universal's Harry Potter feature. And the original Disneyland is doing record business these days too.  |  IP: Logged
