Thanks for that, Tim! That test pattern practically hypnotizes me!
Funny story about that, John remembers when many stations still ran that test pattern (and I tell him he's an old fart! ). Well, one of the stations was WTPA (now WHTM), but he used to think that the Indian had something to do with its call letters, especially the "Tee Pee."
I've seen photos of the TK1, and I'm sure Chuck Pharis has one (or one hundred!). He also has what he believes is the original artwork for the Indian Head test pattern, rescued from a dumpster in Camden.
Okay, here's some pictures for those who like to see vintage broadcast equipment in their natural habitat. An old friend lent me his collection of stereo slides he'd taken in Lebanon PA in the 1950s. Among them was a sizable selection taken in the short-lived local tv station WLBR, which now is the CW15. He allowed me to make high quality copies of the slides which is like stepping back in time. This is the best way I can share them with you.
