Posts: 12814 From: Annapolis, MD Registered: Dec 1999 posted 01-02-2010 11:34 AM                     A typical week for the Silver had full Matinees for theatres 2 and 3 with evening shows in the Historic theatre...Weekends have full shows in all three theatres. Right now they seem to be running a lot of 1st-run "art". However, most of December they had quite a bit of rep and before that they had various film-festivals. If you download their "preview" magazine, you can see what is coming up on the festival/rep films. http://www.afi.com/silver/new/nowplaying/preview/afipreview.pdf The Silver Spring Metro stop (Red Line) is about 3 city blocks away from the theatre. You can clearly see the theatre from the Metro stop. There is actually plenty of parking too. There are three large parking garages near the theatre...one on Wayne Ave, one on Roder (just off Fenton) and one on Colesville Rd. All within a block or two of the theatre. Prices for parking are pretty cheap too. Oh and to answer a question I didn't pick off the first time...in theatre #1...they can use either pair for 35mm and do use both pairs. Obviously 70mm or 16mm dictate which pair are used. Often, they will set one pair for 20 minute reels and the other pair for 6K or one pair for one format and another pair for another format (1.37 vs Scope, for instance). It all depends what is on the schedule and how the operator feels, I guess. There is nothing to stop them from running all four on one show and just changeover right on down the line and such. Steve, that is an AWESOME facillity. I am very jealous! I love SVA and think it's a great place but it seems like you guys have out done us! (I am working on getting permission to take pics should be no problem) You, Cardinal, Onyx, BL&S, and the AFI should be very very proud of your truly first class facillity! I've only seen one show there (and did not see the booth), but everything was perfect. Out of curiousity, how many operators are needed to staff that venue, assuming simultaneous shows in all three theatres? They normally have one operator per booth (2 operators). For SilverDocs...3 operators, one per screen. But if you saw SilverDocs running, you'd know why. It is a very hopping place on the 2nd floor (and downstairs). In fact, they have been known to have a tech on standby too. Sometimes show specific work is done for SilverDocs.
