Can't say for all servers but with a few I've seen it's like this:
Media block/decoder time is set by the factory and cannot be changed. Might be set to the wrong time zone or off by a few minutes (I've seen as much as 20).
The time on the projector dashboards, etc. comes from the controller/sms server. That time can be changed by NTP server or other means depending on your server and skill level.
That time is then used to kick off automated events.

However the media block time is technically unchangeable (again depending on skill level but I don't dare touch it for fear of Mission Impossible-like self destruct mechanisms) so that you can't set the date and gain early access to encrypted content or continue access after the KDM expires.

As for IM2, I guess enough of us complained (especially with IM1 and IM2 on the same drive) about pushing an ingest job that might run 14 hours while other movies are playing out. We get it between 8:30AM and 10:30AM.
Sure would've been nice if it came in on Wednesday like a normal F***ING movie!

P.S. I love the idea of showing a pirated cam copy...this should be on a youtube feed somewhere...

All computers will have time drift which is not uncommon. The difference is you have access to either the bios or the OS time (unless its been restricted with a password or limited usage rights settings) to reset it manually. These days most computers are connected to the internet and thus will auto update in most cases.

As I understand the dCinema servers will also auto update if connected to the internet, but we have no internet access in the our booth. Otherwise, the server manufacturer has to write a script to update the time (based on how far off the time is for that particular server. We had this done back in November, but within a month the time had drifted by several minutes. Till now its not been a problem.

I can understand not allowing access o the time function so a booth operator can not accidentally forward the time and cause KDM's to expire, activate eaarly, or even roll back the time extend the useful life of the KDM.

Cant all servers adjust the secure clock? It is DCI spec (if that means anything) to allow servers to change the clock by up to six minutes per year. It's sure easy to do in the Dolby server. Just make sure you are running at least version 4.

Maybe a new thread should be started on this.

I was told that the doremi can have a single 30 minute change every 12 months. We finally got an email about time drift from corporate and are to advise our booking dept to let Paramount know if it will be an issue.

Sounds to me that they're getting nervous. I find it a little on the extortion side to offer up a KDM for $100 for an hour earlier validity to avoid late starts.

So it'll take up to 14 hours to ingest Iron Man 1 and 2 while other movies are playing? That is waaaay beyond pathetic. I would be ashamed to have such crappy technology even in my dishwasher. I can build up two prints about 12-13 times faster than that and believe it or not I can even do this while other movies are playing.

Digital just gets more and more stupid with each passing day, it seems. Those who "upgraded" to digital, you will get no sympathy from me about this mess. You bought into digital and this is what you get with it.

Wow, my solution is simply to walk into the auditorium at the stroke of midnight, welcome everyone, get them all excited, then request everyone pull out their cell phones and call 1-800-993-4567 and voice their opinion on the delay.

$100? No, I don't think so.

Regardless they just released the combinations in case anyone doesn't have immediate access to them.

Any theatre that reported an issue with their server clock in our company got new keys, unlocked at 6pm tonight.

For what its worth... our lock would not open with ANY of the combinations listed!! We called Deluxe and after waiting on hold for about five minutes, we were told to cut the lock while the agent was on the phone! Since I don't keep my bolt cutters on my person (only my 9 MM Ruger), they agreed to allow us to cut the lock without staying on the phone with them. Instead, I was able to open the metal clip securing the latch above the lock so that I did not have to cut the lock off to open the can.

As mentioned in previous posts, the whole idea of locking cans only succeeds in inconveniencing theatre personnel and probably does very little in stopping film piracy. I equate it to the government policy of gun laws which only serve to keep guns out of the hands of law abiding folks, while the bad guys don't give a 'rat's ass' about following the law!! I think the same applies to the current 'locked can' policy!!

Well I guess with all the complaining that's going on Paramount sent out new KDM's. They validate at 6pm. Just tried ours and they work. Even skipped to the end to make sure it wasn't the test key for reel#1
