I have no doubt that the laughter is amped up and they add and remove laughter after the recording as deemed necessary. Especially considering that multiple takes is not going to result in a great laugh from the audience after they've heard the same joke 3 or 4 times. But It's definitely different than a laugh track, in my opinion.

I understand that all is not what it appears on any show or movie or even piece of music. The presence of audience laughter (or a laugh track) doesn't make me laugh, but it doesn't take anything away from the show for me, personally, either.

At any rate, Mr Schwartz created some of the most iconic shows in TV history, and hopefully his family is doing well in this time of loss.
