the lack of responses isn't important, it's the archiving of informtaion
Yeah, but...isn't this information readily available elsewhere? I've done release date searches on imdb.com before. Or has that feature gone away..?

Hmmm....you would have to define "memorable;" not a lot of memorable stuff going on these days. Then again, just like some old fart of a judge and pornography, I may not be able to define it (actually, I can), but I know it when I see it.

I'm thinkin it's gonna be a short list.

You guys are making it too complicated. It would just be a list of dates, with Coate's list of films for each date, with comments from us Film-Techers (as opposed to the general public, who comment on "other" sites).

The idea is not to provide a list of all movies released on a date and it's not meant as a resource, just a place to archive all of our comments on the films in one spot -- as opposed to having a thread for each date cluttering up Yak (and eventually disappearing as the pages get older). With this idea all the dates would be gathered in one neat list. And with each date having its own thread, future films could be added easily as the years go by.

Sheeeeeesh. I never thought I would have to go to such lengths to explain myself on this thing.

I got you Mike. It makes perfect sense. I like seeing everyone's "memories" from these releases. Having it's own forum would make it less cluttered as it can get lost in all the other yak.

I'm considering giving this thing another try. Is there any consensus on how and where this series should appear?

One film featured per day? Several films per day?

In Film-Yak? Afterlife? Newly-created category?

Okay, I'm going back to doing this the way I've been handling it on my Facebook page, which is I will post the movie poster image for one relatively well-known/popular/critically-acclaimed title whose original release date fell on the day the posting is made. This is being done in the spirit of things like celebrity birthdays or significant world events that occurred "on this day in history" and so forth. Please consider commenting if you have any memories of seeing the films featured in their original release or if you worked at a theater during their run and have anything worthwhile to share. I'm posting in Film-Yak for the time being. It'll be one continuous thread. If you have a better idea, feel free to share it.

You're thinking of this backward, Manny. To do a search on sites like IMDb, you need to already know the title. You can't do a date search. Don't believe me? Then tell me what I have planned for tomorrow (Oct. 22). [Smile]

MIchael - I still think the whole thing would make a lot more sense if you had a thread for each day. If Brad ever decides to move these things into their own forum, hopefully there would be one thread for each day of the year. Maybe it could even be automated to have the current day be at the top of the list, or something.
