I mean it's never mentioned. You always hear the "big screen" but I can never recall hearing the words "big sound," which to me is just as important.

Famous Players in Canada always said Big Screen Big Sound in adds and film daters.

Exactly. Dialog should not be painful or fatiguing to listen to like it was at the Digital IMAX location I visited. If dialog sounds like this when your fader is at 7, then your system is likely not set up properly. It should definitely have a presence, but not a painful one.

Are talking about trailers in general or trailers for re-released movies?

All IMAX Digital locations are not created equal. Just because "IMAX" is plastered on the auditorium is no guarantee of quality of any kind. Yours may sound fine but I have found one that definitely does not.

Absolutely! In fact the dialogue is how the fader setting SHOULD be determined. If the dialogue is comfortable, not quiet, not loud, then everything else will fall nicely into place.

How much time did you get to do this? I'm assuming prints arrived earlier there than they did when I used to work in a multiplex. Did you ever have a split house that required two different EQs?

I think it's awesome that this could be done at the Northpark, but how could it ever be possible in a multiplex?

How many other movie theaters in the country re-tune a sound system for each show? I'm willing to bet very very few.

Judging by comments from M:I-Ghost Protocol screenings it seems like IMAX has no policy on re-tuning the sound system for each specific movie. Although to be fair certain IMAX theaters are playing multiple movies in the same room.

In the case of IMAX Digital screens and other wannabe fake IMAX houses that charge premium admission prices they have zero excuse for providing anything less than reference quality sound. They're not delivering that, but they're still charging the big bucks anyway.

The GCC Northpark 1-2 delivered the goods on sound and image quality. And it did so for a standard admission price.

I wouldn't expect this to be done on every screen of the garden variety 12-24 'plex. However, any multiplex with a big house featuring some acronym (like XD, ETX, ASS, etc.) and a hefty premium above standard ticket prices damned sure should be re-tuning for every show and have the place equipped with top of the line gear, THX certification, etc. That ain't happenin'.

That's ridiculous. They offer a premium experience for the standard price? Next you're going to tell me that the auditorium was big and the screen was pretty big, too. This is just absurd. Price should be over $20 a ticket for the "Northpark Xperience" (NPX). Maybe $6 per ticket for auditorium #2. This is the exhibition industry, after all.

Yep. Huge room. More than 1000 seats. Pretty big screen too, although I don't know the dimensions. The theater had the same vibe as a world premiere class theater in New York or Los Angeles, but with arguably better technical excellence.

The absurd thing is how the theater no longer exists. The mall expanded over the top of the theater's site. If you visit the Apple store in Northpark Mall you'll pretty much be standing where the Northpark 1-2 used to be. Or at least its front parking lot.
