It is interesting to note the number of black actors who won Screen Actors Guild Awards AFTER all the controversy. Is it possible they can now wonder whether they were the best, or just given the award to counter the Oscar count?

Idris Elba was the only non-white actor nominated for a movie role, and for a movie - Beasts of No Nation - that made $90,777 in theatres. Although it was 91% on RottenTomatoes, I find it hard to believe enough people saw the movie for the win to be based solely on merit. But who knows, maybe all 100K SAG members received screeners.

The only reason people care about the Oscars is because it's the only award ceremony broadcast on mainstream TV. Personally I think it should be like the SAG Awards and not broadcast at all. Yay, industry people congratulating themselves, this is awesome! What's not to like? Is the movie they choose as "Best Picture" actually the best movie of that year? Of course not. Will Leo win an Oscar? Who gives a fuck? And please stop calling him Leo, you're not personal acquaintances with him. Give him the ultimate insult... an honorary Oscar in 10 or 15 years. Like I said, get rid of the boring categories and PLEASE get rid of the song performances. They waste time and only old people with no taste like them. Also get rid of the "In Memoriam". It's a popularity contest of dead people and it does nothing to honor their lives and their work. They leave someone out for political reasons and people bitch about it. Why? The show is that much shorter as a result! OMG I didn't see so-and-so's name in white text playing with sad music accompanied by applause from the crowd, what am I to do?" I will accept only one item in the "In Memoriam" segment and that would the THE OSCAR TELECAST. I'd rather watch golf on TV.

"OscarsSoWhite" isn't even grammatically correct. I can't take it seriously. If you're gonna start a hashtag, don't play into stereotypes that you don't know how to use the language properly. "WhiteOscars" is better and also offers the opportunity for 2 more characters to express anger in your tweet. Screw inequality in education and the job marketplace, the Oscars are what's most important! Next year the Oscars won't be so white. You can bet on those words. Racism will have been solved. But seriously I don't know why they only nominate 5. They could nominate more. But nobody should be nominated JUST BECAUSE they're black... which WILL happen. I won't be surprised if 3 or 4 of the 5 nominated next year are black as a direct response to this. Spike Lee this is your chance, be sure to get a movie out. That Best Director win is yours bro.

Right, and for the black acting community it will be a hollow victory because they'll never again know if they got nominated because they were good....or just because a bunch of people raised a stink.

I don't know what other solution there could be, though. Not unless they were to scrap the whole nominating/voting system and start over with a hand-picked panel of judges.

And ironically, "So White" is the name of the pastiche of Disney's heroine in the infamous Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs....
