Author Topic: Drive-in gets ticket for "noise," then it's thrown out of court Monte L Fullmer Film God Posts: 8367 From: Nampa, Idaho, USA Registered: Nov 2004 posted 01-30-2018 05:02 PM                     When you get a yard full of 200 cars and a third of them have megawatt sound systems in them, forget about hearing your own radio since the sound coming from half of the cars can be easily heard. We carry 5 or 6 jumper boxes from Costco, and they get a workout. I would imagine just the sound from multiple, souped-up car radios blaring the soundtrack might be enough to cause neighbors to complain -- adding an additional open-air system seems like they are just asking for trouble and it's not necessary when the solution is to use FM transmission like every other DI in the world. Does the ordinance give any specific SPL that would be in violation? I mean, it is easy enough to say if the business in question produces an SPL at your domicile of xx dB, they are in violation. That's easy enough to measure. In our Movie in the Park summer festival, it's a "Walk-In" as opposed to a Drive-In. We get audiences of 4000 to 6000 people and we are using a Rock-&-Roll type, massive sound system 20 line array bins on either side of the stage. These are not facing the neightborhood but the 500 plus acre park that streches out in front of the stage. The sound is STILL heard by the neighbors living behind it. Sound doesn't propagate in only one direction, unfortunately. We deal with complaints all the time. We discovered the number of complaints is also factored in.
