PS -- Also, as we are coming close to 9/11, near the end of the GODSPELL clip, there is some great shots of NYC but especially the Twin Towers which were still under construction at the time of the filming -- at about 3:30 Twin Towers at 3:30

Hard to tell, Jim -- I do know that certainly all their news is "BREAKING NEWS" -- that's impressive, and for a newscast that Walter Cronkite lamented was much to short to be able to cover the news in any significant depth (and that was when they had more like 27 mins in his half hour thanks to the FCC back then regulating how much ad time was allowed poer hour). But I can tell you, today ABC sure does have a crack team of weather specialists in order to give a good 10 min of that half hour to show wind and rain and sticking a mic in people's faces and asking the equivalent of, "Hot nuff for ya?" Or "Wet nuff for ya?" or "How did it feel being sucked up in that twister?"
Seems every night there always a SEVERE WEATHER WATCH somewhere that we, who are everywhere BUT there need to "watch." Oh, oh...look how hot it is (yah, it's SUMMER)...look at all the snow (yah, it's WINTER).
Use to be the Network news practically never reported on weather because weather is LOCAL. Local news deals with local weather in their broadcast area...you know, where their viewers live. And besides, Ginger Zee, if there is SEVERE weather that you're "watching" EVERY SINGLE NIGHT, then maybe consider that it's not NEWS!
There is the mandatory wasted 2 min opening tease and a 3 min closing "feel good" piece where evidently their crack Google expert team gathers the daily "Index" -- a compilation of shit videos that they found on the internet -- they don't even have to send a camera crew for that crap. At least with the weather, poor Gio Benitez and his crew stand out by the West Side Hi either freezing his balls off in the winter of roasting them in the summer...makes good video though.
Rule of thumb at the network news divisions is, if you got a video, it is NEWS. The other night they had some b&w, barely viewable video from someone's home security camera of a women walking up to the front door and then walking away... that was news worthy because she had handcuffs on one hand. There wasn't any more information other than that and the ask, "If anyone has any information about this woman...", but damn, they had that video, so they ran the "story" on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights and never gave any more information, who she was, what was the motivation...nothing, other than by Tuesday they told the country that she was "OK and unharmed." That is what passes for news today. And I am not singling out ABC; they are all equal journalism offenders.
Where is Uncle Walter when we need him.
