Hi all...I need a 35mm tape splicer and have found one for sES-7869 ale. Can anyone tell me whether the "ES-7869" made in Italy bearing name "Dr. Leo Cazzola" is any good. I have one of their 16mm tape splicers which has been good, but I'm not familiar with the 35mm model.

If it's the 35mm version of the 16mm "guillotine" splicer, then, yes, it is a decent splicer, and is probably worth about $100 if the blades are in good shape. Replacement blades cost about $75 apiece, so make sure that it's in decent condition before you buy it. The Neumade splicer is better (for 35mm; I haven't tried the 16mm Neumade, but I'm sure that it's good), but is at least twice as expensive. On the Century projectors that I'm familiar with, splices made with a guillotine splicer will run through slightly unsteady, but splices made with the Neumade model run perfectly and are nearly un-noticeable.

I'm not familiar with that make/model splicer, but if you are searching for a Neumade I have a couple of those posted at the Equipment For Sale forum here.

If I may help correcting that name: It’s Dr. Leo Catozzo. His name was actually Cattozzo with two t but somewhere on his lifeline somebody misspelled. He was a friend of Federico Fellini and became allergic to acetone, a film cement component. His living as editor being threatened, he had to make a decision. The decision was to invent a means for joining film ends without cement: the then unknown splicer with colourless clear self-adhesive tape.
I personally prefer the splicer by Carlos Rivas. But things are often a matter of taste, aren’t they?
