I never quite got why B&W stock is still used for IB Tech prints. Is it needed just to produce the analog soundtrack? Or is it still used to add contrast to scenes as with early Technicolor? If a good deal of silver remains in the film, then (according to the "Purple and brown film?" thread) this will absorb more radiant energy. Could this cause warping and the shedding which is associated with IB Tech prints, and B&W prints in general?
Or is the cause of shedding just that the B&W emulsion is thinner... if so, would it be possible to make B&W film of thicker emulsion?

B&W Stock ( I believe that call it 'receiver stock' in the case of the stock for IB Tech prints) is basically blank(clear) except for the soundtrack areas and the edges ( especially if digital soundtracks are employed) The dye layers are then applied to this stock... anyone correct me if I am incoresct...Aaron
