Does anyone know where I can get hold of some of these?I mean the ones that tell you not to run off with the speaker still attached and countdowns to the show, etc

I wouldn't mind having some of these myself. I remember when I worked at the old Meadowbrook Drive In in Middleboro, Mass., at the stand, that they ran the PIC mosquito coil ad for years and years, as well as the intermission countdown, which was spliced together so that the one minute intervals lasted about ten seconds. In the last few years of operation, the film must have turned into dust, because there was no more intermission.
A few years back, at a collectibles show in Boston, I picked up a video tape with the cryptic title "Intermission". It mostly contains local screen ads, but the old countdowns are on there, along with the PIC ad. I believe I sent a copy to Scott Norwood a while back-if anyone else is interested, let me know.------------------

Yep, I have the intermission tape (thanks, Tom!). It has a pretty good variety of clips, although the order is somewhat random. Still, it's fun stuff to have, though I wish that it included the "talking Bic lighters" spots. <grin> Actually, I have most of the Bic things on 16mm, so if anyone has cheap or free access to a 16mm film chain setup, let me know.

All of the "intermission" tapes come from a guy named Mike Vraney who's out of Seattle, his number is 206.361.3759. Mike has what must be hundreds of old policy films, daters, chain logos, snipes and what have you. He sels them on VHS but I know he has prints. He runs an operation called "Something Weird" which specializes in releasing old exploitation films, including some of the old Kroger Babb/H.G. Lewis/K. Gordon Murray crapola pics from the 50's. Maybe you could get him to part with some of his collection. . .

John,You can still get all the original stuff brand new from Filmack in Chicago. Coburg triple drive-in runs a variety of speaker theft ads along with 5 minute intermission countdowns evcery night of the year. Our multiplexes also run Filmack trailers to promote the drive-in.
You will find contact for them in Boxoffice mag annual directory or email me and I'll retreive the information when next at the office. A full catalog is still available of all the classic drive-in stuff.
I also have copies on 35mm of all the original Village Drive-in Theatres snack bar ads. These also still run nightly at Coburg. The last ones were shot at Village Northland Twin in 1978! This is the version we still run and have new prints made from negs every 3 years. One staff member that appears in the ad retired just last year!

David's correct. I just recieved a packet of information from Filmack about two months ago. I was really surprised to see how much of that type of stuff is still available NEW.
It's a little pricey, but definetely worth it in my opinion.------------------

For what it's worth, the "Drive-In Theatre Fan Club" sells audio CD's called "It's Intermission Time Folks" - Volumes I & II which feature the audio portion of all of the old standard drive-in stuff.I've got both CD's and there pretty good. I know Volume II (which is in the CD player in my truck right now) has 99 tracks on it. Track # 98 features the "Don't forget to replace your speaker" clip, and another track on the disc features a full ten minute Intermission Clock. There is also a "I Always Flick My Bic At The Drive-In" promo on Volume II.
I use both CD's in my mobile DJ business. I like to use the "Let's All Go To The Lobby" clip to drive people out of the ballroom after a wedding reception. The look on their face is priceless.

The Drive-In Theatre Fan Club actually ceased to exist this past December. It was getting so large and required so much time that the founders were having difficulty keeping up with their family obligations. Their merchandising operation, the Drive-In Theatre Exchange, is still active. They do carry the audio-tapes and CD's of intermission trailers as Barry and Art mentioned. I will NEVER buy another release from Something Weird Video. This company puts out some great stuff, but they put a goddamned "SWV" over the picture on some of their stuff! I checked out one of their drive-in double feature DVDs and ALL the trailers had this crap on it! The guy who runs this sure has a messed-up idea of film preservation!
Much better is the Drive-in disc from Elite Entertainment, which has "Let's all go to the lobby" and the bug-killer ad, all with no onscreen crap to ruin it. They're supposed to put out more of these soon.

Bumping it up because I recently stumbled upon a link to a company which makes a "21st Century" Drive-In policy trailer that addresses things such as SUVs, Laser Pointers, and Daytime Running Lights. They're fairly cheap, too!

I've seen some of the Screen Attractions titles and have been very impressed. The DI policy looks and sounds great and is apparently the only currently available DI policy trailer (though Filmack, Cinema Concepts, and maybe others sell new prints of older DI trailers). I am looking forward to seeing more of their remastered versions of older trailers as well.Brad--is there any chance of getting some old Filmack catalogs posted in the manuals section?
