My theatre's SRD reader (penthouse, cat 700) is giving me problems. The decoder (DA20) is reading no data from the reader. However, if I turn the reader off and mess with the wiring behind the scanning lens and turn it on, sometimes it'll work again with a reading of 4-5. It will work for an addition 1-2 minutes before dropping to no data. I figured it may be a loose wire but I've ripped the reader apart and can't find any loose connections. I called Dolby and they suggested a new bulb. I did that and it's still doing the same thing. Any suggestions?

First, can you hook the DA20 to another reader to ensure that it is working correctly?Second, have you checked the alignment of the reader? If the focus needs adjusting (it shouldn't, but it's been known to happen) or if the CCD scanner is misaligned, you'd get at least some of these symptoms.
Third, I presume that you've checked the connections to the DA20?

How old is the DA20 some of them had switching powersupply problems

Print could be bad, too. Is the print in Dolby Digital, or just the trailers?

We've tried two different prints on it, along with several trailers. They all do the same thing. The tech at Dolby said he had been to my theatre in the past and that when he was there, the lens was horribly out of focus. So maybe it's out of focus again. But if it is, wouldn't the reader work none of the time? If I tinker with it enough, it'll work for a couple minutes before dropping out again.

Those Cat 700's seem to have quite a few problems. The Cat 699 was much better in my experience. The Cat 701 seems to be better than the 700 as well.Call Dolby and ask them to come fix it for free. If they say no, tell them that you'll put Dolby Digital trailers on every movie, and when they play you'll keep pressing the mute button so the sound goes on and off repeatedly. Then the customers will all think Dolby sucks and then they'll go out of business as a result.
Just kidding, of course. I felt like posting for no reason and I couldn't think of anything to type.
