We are a THX approved theatre and have a DTS-ES unit hooked up with our Dolby CP-500. In ES mode the DTS-ES unit produces short noise bursts i the left surround-array (only there). The noise does not occur in nonES mode. It never appears in the same place in the movie and usually only 1 or 2 times through a show. Very annoying... anyone who knows more about this?

Nice to know about some problems allready with the new ES. I am looking into the addition but you might want to contact DTS technical help.My only guess is that it has some kind of static buildup of some sort, perhaps it is not grounded properly, but as I said I am only looking into the ES addition.
I do not know of any ES encoded films as of yet, does the ES unit make compensations and split it on its own or just run it the way it was encoded?

All EX encoded films are ES encoded, as they are basically the same thing, except the DTS-ES plays them automatically that way.Sounds like you have a defective unit. I think the software might be glitched up inside or something. I say this because the mode for ES is completely independant of normal. They each have their own seperate level settings and EQ (try doing THAT with the Dolby SA10). I agree, definitely call DTS. I have 2 ES units and have not had this problem. They may be able to swap it out for you.
