While I was visiting a theatre today, I ran into a version of Strong platter that I have not seen previously. On the removable feedout plate there was a row of three small lights, one red, one yellow, and one green. These were located on one side of the switch. What function do these lights serve?

Those are the diagnostic LEDs for the latest model Potts/Strong platters called the Self Calibrating Digital Control (S.C.D.C.). The Digital Motor Control (D.M.C.) also uses a the same centerfeed. These units are the top-of-the-line models, however the old reliable Alpha and AP versions are still made. The SCDC and DMC models payout very smoothly, but have had problems with the EEPROM inside the centerfeed losing it's program causing shutdowns, complete inoperation, or wraparounds. This model also uses a totally different variac box (no variac at all inside the box) with circuit boards inside it.
