Yesterday we received Drowning Mona on brand new technicolor reels. The problem is when we need to tear down this print there is no hole for the off-center peg on our Christie tables. The cores only have two holes and they are both occupied by the clips that hold the flanges on. Any Ideas???????

Look in forum "Holy Reels!" I guess some people just drilled holes in them themselves.

That's what I do with New Line Cinema Reels. They won't fit on our makeup tables no matter what I do. So I drill new holes.

Speaking of reels though, is there any way to ever order new ones? Sometimes we'll get second run prints (not very often, we mostly run new releases, but when things get slow will pick up an old release) that have reels in horrible condition. I can't count the number of times I've pulled a reel out of the can only to find the two havles are both broken off and the only good part left is the center. Right now we just 'steal from Peter to pay Pual' and use reels from other movies, but eventually this is going to catch up with us.

For plastic shipping reels, try Goldberg Brothers, Motion Picture Enterprises, or Plastic Reel Corporation.

For film cans and cores, Kodak's subsidiary FPC sells a variety of these items:

Were these the new translucent reels? I have seen a couple of them ( one in pitch black, a few two weeks ago, forget what film) But all of the ones I have seen have have had at least 3 holes, one for each peg, and one for the offset pin. I also was suprised to see that they had a quick release tab that allowed the sides to be easily removed withouht destroying the ability be securely held on (at least so far)

It is almost like they were aware of the abuse we here (and at other theatres across the nation) hurl at them every Thursday.
