Well i heard a rummour on the chat room that some people have been bugging Brad regarding the crashes of the forum.(this wasn't heard from brad either)
Well for a free service I don't think anyone whould be complaining, but should be coming cap in hand saying thankyou
This forum's costs have been born by brad and unlike a lot of other profesional forums there is no users fees or banner ads so maybe it is time for all the members to say

As one of the many non-posting members I have learned a lot from this forum and send all of my projectionists to this site. It is difficult but I can manage a couple days without when the server crashes. Thanks to everyone who keeps the rest of us informed.

I must say that this forum has the best signal-to-noise ratio of any forum or USENET group I've ever read and used, for ANY topic. I sincerely appreciate the effort put into running it and keeping it what it is. I have learned a tremendous amount about projection and theatres by reading it and I hope that it will always be around.

If it wasn't for forums such as this, I'd have more money in the bank ... that is, I'd never have gone into 35mm without all the technical knowledge I've gained from all the frequent and the infrequent submitters 
This gave me the confidence to dive in; I guess I could have looked first, though.But really, it's great to be able to (mostly)lurk in a place that mostly professional projectionists hang out ... without being a pain and underfoot. And SOMEDAY I'll get around to begging for a booth tour of some of the local DC theaters. Until then, I have the Projection Picture Warehouse to keep me fulfilled.

While I mostly lurk here about 4 hours a day, I am amazed at how much good information is passed along amongst everyone. I have been registered only since last month, however have been watching with great interest since last November. I have been in the projection biz on and off most of my life (since I was 12). I'm amazed how much has changed and how much has not changed in the 37+ years I've been at it. (But that is another thread.)
Kudo's to Brad for his patience in developing this site and putting up with all of us and the frailties of the www.

I too love to visit Film-Tech and recommend it to all the projectionists that I know. When Film-Tech crashed I e-mailed Brad and asked him when it would be up again because I was going through withdrawal. I didn't criticize it, but meerly wanted to let Brad know how much it was missed. I truly do appreciate all the hard work that Brad does. If this was interpreted in the wrong way I do apologize. Thanks Brad!

My how rumors spread.No criticism was taken from the emails. In fact, it has been quite helpful when people email me when there is a bad link and such so I can correct it. This has been a problem over the last few weeks with the manual downloads, as we are moving all of the files to a dedicated server to increase everyone's download speeds. Hopefully this will be fixed within a few days and everyone can download faster.
The only problem is with users bookmarking the forum directly. When the program is being upgraded or worked on in any fashion, everyone sends emails letting me know there is a problem. Not wanting to ignore anyone, I always try and respond to all emails. However, the notice is generally on the main page (www.film-tech.com) when there is a problem that is currently being worked on...yet no one ever checks it. This is the reason the site is moving to frames to force everyone to check the main/announcement page. There have been as many as a few hundred emails flooding the email box over a forum crash, when there was a notice on the front page. Hopefully this will keep everyone more informed. 
Now that we have finished relocating, there will be many new manuals and pictures coming your way in the next few weeks along with other new additions that are in the works.
Banner ads? Yuck!

I agree they are cute and very helpful when you want to make sure people get your intention of your lines. Brad, why is that menu bar at the lower end of the screen all the time? is it only me, or does others have the same problems with the 'NEW POSTS' indicater 'bulb'? the folders are yellow all the time even if there is a new post, normaly the folder is red. I have deleted all cookies, but it dosent help?

That menu bar is for surfing throughout the site. If it distracts you, simply grab it with your mouse and lower it down.I am using Netscape's browser and the bulbs work fine for me. What browser are you using?

Im useing IE5, another thing, after i deleted the cookies i have to type in my username and password each time i post a new message. Also when i enter the site it opens with all 20 pages! normaly its set at 3, or the last 20 days. Folders are still yellow and does not turn red when a new message is posted. Creepie!

I'm really not sure. I'm not a MSIE fan. Anyone else out there using ver 5 who can verify if the red/yellow folders are working or not on that browser version?The default time frame is "show all topics". This makes searching the archive easier.

Anyway the forum is very messy, it all started when i had to enter the forums through the main screen, thats where you have the oscar stuff, the old link to the forum does'ent work any more, it says 'ERROR' and try another link. I pretty much explained in my earlyer post all the problems i have. That 'bulb' thats either on or off is completly gone also!

Direct bookmarks to the forum should not be used. That was intentional and will continue to change. So the only problem you are experiencing is the bulbs?

This was NOT a "mess up" and I repeat was INTENTIONAL! For anyone out there who is bookmarking the forum directly it WILL CONTINUE to change. Please bookmark the main page only. This was done for basically the same reason that most customers can't read a sign at the box office, many readers here could not think to check the welcome page before flooding my email box when a known problem exists and is posted at the front of the site. This new format forces the welcome page upon each visit to the site and with this one exception, has completely eliminated that problem. Emails of site problems are very much welcome, but become very aggravating if there is a message at the MAIN address of www.film-tech.com stating "the forums are down for repair" etc, etc, etc. Not replying to these emails would be rude and in all honesty, it kills my afternoon replying to them when all people have to do is read. (Sorry for the rant)
For anyone using Internet Explorer and having problems, please try this:
Click on tools...internet options...temporary internet files...settings...view files...edit...select all...then hit the delete button.
I have now verified everything is working normally with a download of IE and a couple of friends who are using Bill Gate's superb browser. The problem does not lie here. (You might want to consider using Netscape.)
Please perform the above and contact me offline for further assistance. This is apparently a singled out problem and there is no need to clutter the forum with one viewer's problems.
