Brad: What determines the response time between when a posting is sent, and the time is actually gets posted on Film-Tech? Sometimes, the message is posted as soon as I get the receipt confirmation. Other times, it may take up to an hour to be posted, even though the posting time is listed and the thread goes to the top of the list immediately. I like to double check my message in final form on the forum, especially to check if the html URLs work.

I find that I have to refresh/reload the screen for the particular thread that I have posted to. Unfortunately web browsers are dumb and they don't realize the page has changed unless you refresh the browser. All postings seem to go in immediately.

The post is immediate. If you are not seeing it, your browser is cacheing. Get a recent Netscape if possible. Also, don't use the back button right after posting. Allow the system to take you through the "thank you" screen and back to the thread. From there you can get back into the topic list by using the folder links at the top of the page.

That's definitely odd, as that is the same browser I use and everything is immediate for me. Perhaps Kodak's network itself is cacheing much like AOL tends to do? Try logging on from home and posting something and let me know what you find.

You're probably correct about the Kodak server cacheing pages. At Kodak, despite my fast office Ethernet connection, I get delayed refreshes on a variety of sites. At home, using a modem and private ISP, downloads are much slower, but updates more frequent. Thanks.

You need to go into Netscape's preferences and make sure cache is set to "Once per session". I never ever have any trouble with the pages updating. But maybe that's 'cuz I'm using a Mac, and we all know that those just don't have ANY problems (J/K)

This forum looks absolutely horrible using Netscape 6. The text is huge and childlike. Plus, in my opinion, the entire Netscape 6 browser looks very clunky.

Yup, just like changeovers, Macs are the way to go (and have about the same market share...hmmm)

And just for spite, I have Virtual PC running on my Mac as well, it kills the lack of software or compatibility arguement.

Annother thing to try is if its possible, depending on the layout of your network, is to bypass any proxy servers, as these typically cache information as well.

I'm typing this on a Sun machine running Solaris; I'm using the Lynx web browser (which is much faster than Netscape, et al.). I can just hit ctrl-R to reload the current page...

(Yes, I'm a computer geek...sorry.)

I just hope that they change out Netcpae 6's look and interface before the "final" release. It looks really stupid. It doesn't look as slick as Netscape 4.7, which seems to work perfectly.

Naw I just think they are trying to add too much glitzy crap. Stuff like that slows it down. It is also only a beta release, so I'm sure it will speed up. I just hope that they change the user interface. Yuck.

It does have the tab on the left that pops out just like IE, though. I wonder when AOL will buy MicroSoft?
