Just a quick note to one and all....The Senator theatre in Baltimore, Maryland will be playing TOP GUN in 70mm 6-track Dolby Stereo (with split surrounds) this Thursday, Friday and Saturday (5/18 - 5/20)

Egad Steve. I think the only 70mm print in the exchanges of Top Gun is the one from the Dallas depot which is a mutt print and in poor shape. Can you confirm or deny this is the print that will be presented?

The last time we ran it in Chicago it was a print directly from the studio. That was about 7 years back.

Brad,I can neither confirm nor deny the condition of the print. The most I have heard about it was that there was a green scratch in the opening credits but is gone by the time the fade up on the aircraft carrier. There were other reported minor abbrasions and base scratches and such but is considered viewable. I haven't been to the theatre personally for this one nor do I think I will have the time (actually I'm sure I won't have the time).

We played Top Gun in 70mm at Granada in Addison, Texas. I'm sure it was the Dallas depot's print, but I didn't get a chance to see it and wasn't working that weekend we screened it. In fact, I've never even SEEN the film. Should I be ashamed of myself?------------------

HMMMmmmmm...ashamed? No.You should see it though. It is one of the finer examples of testosterone overload from the 80's.

Have never seen this on film, either. I suffered through a pan-n-scan VHS tape of it once, though. It's not an especially good film, but I'm sure that the music and visuals would be impressive in 70mm.
Still, I can't think of any film that I would _not_ want to see at the Senator. That theatre is really about as close as any commercial theatre can get to "perfection" in film presentation. I met Tom and Bill briefly at the 70mm fest a few weeks ago...they're both really great people who are committed to putting on a good show. With the general state of theatrical exhibition being what it is at this time, it's very encouraging to meet people like those at the Senator.

Brad -- no, I'm waiting until the Senator gets 70mm mag prints of "Pokemon 872: Pikachu's Revenge" and "Pokemon 900: Mewtwo strikes back"
