As of this morning (05/31/00), when I enter the Film-Tech site (www.film-tech.com), I get a slow "fade in" to the home page, starting with a white screen, and taking about a minute to go progressively darker, until the Film-Tech headings and menu bar appears. Has something changed in the way the site is accessed? Once I'm in the site, everything is normal.

The change seems to have coincided with the heading announcing the on-line availability of Joe's projection training tape. Has access speed just bogged down with everyone downloading this huge (but entertaining) file?

I haven't noticed any difference whatsoever in access speed since the training video became available. I've been using both Internet Explorer on NT machines and Netscape on SGI boxes today and haven't noticed anything different than usual. I've accessed from two different domains (itsc.uah.edu and msfc.nasa.gov) as well with nothing unusual.

I'm using Netscape Communicator 4.61, accessed through Kodak's high speed Ethernet. I assume there is some sort of "firewall". Other sites don't have the "fade-in" delay to their home page.

I noticed this as well, except my browser takes about one secont to "fade in".
I don't think its just film-tech. other sites I've noticed doing this as well also have a dark background

John, you just aren't surfing the web properly! Perhaps if you were accessing the site from behind Fuji's firewall it would work better

I see this as well, I thought it was just a gimick to make it look like the lights were coming down in an auditorium or something which actually looks pretty cool, but annoying after a while....

I have a Mac and I don't see it. I guess that, just like most computer viruses, it is limited to PC users only. Cool.

I noticed the fade-in when I view the site at home with Netscape 4.0, but at work with IE 5.1, there is no fade.

Haven't seen this here. I usually use Lynx, but I checked this out with Netscape 4.6 under WinNT, Solaris, and Linux with no problems.

Joe, that has nothing to do with platform, merely popularity. If MAC was the number 1 OS, it would be the other way around.

I thought WebTV was going down again.

When I go the the 'next newest' (post,) I get a prompt from Webtv saying that Film-Tech could not find the page, then I see the page slowly form behind the prompt on the screen. I hit continue, and stagger on...

I've seen the fade-in for about a week now. I use Netscape 4.7. I figured it was just a new "feature".

I am using Netscape 4.7 on the Mac and haven't seen it so far, but will report if I do.

The delay (or "fade in") was tracked down to the anti-bookmarking code I installed on the site. I have corrected it and tested it with different browsers and all seems fine now. Whenever you see curtains opening, THAT'll be a gimmick.

For those who are dying to know why, it is because many members would bookmark the forum directly and fail to check the main page of the site whenever they got an error message (in other words, as I am doing routine maintenance on the forum) and flood my email box thinking the entire site is down. As an added bonus, this forces everyone to see the "announcement" page. Sorry to anyone who doesn't like the anti-bookmarking thing. It was something that just had to be done.

Speaking of curtains opening, has anyone seen Criterion's DVD of the movie RUSHMORE? When you insert the disc, the first thing you see is curtains that promptly open to reveal the main menu.

Thanks. Your "fix" worked, and the "fade-in" delay is gone.

I DO miss the ability to directly bookmark a thread to share with others. Now I have to explain how to go through the menus to get to a particular thread. I understand your need to have flexibility in reorganizing/amending the URLs, and the hassles of having to respond when people can't find something.

There sure is! First you highlight the text and then click: EDIT/COPY. Then open your email program and put the cursor in the text box and click EDIT/PASTE.
