Hi there

I was wondering if anyone out there is running this combination? I want to get a Media Cleaner on our machines, but due to the odd upper feed assembly on these machines (not an arm attachment, but a continuation of the projector head) it may be tricky as we can't use the standard machine mount.

Any suggestions?

How do you mount your typical Dolby Digital and DTS penthouse readers (SDDS doesn't count, since nobody seems to care about that format anymore).

I'd say, drill and tap two holes in the front side of the machine just above the lenses and use the platter mounting bracket available from Kelmar. The cleaner would then stick forward from the front of the machine.

Where does the DTS or SDDS reader mount normally?

What about platter mounted cleaners. I have never used them (or seen them for that matter), but I have heard about them. I think Kelmar makes one.

Kinoton makes brackets for DTS, SDDS and cleaners including their own anti-static one. www.kinoton.com lists their dealers.

BTW the brackets require no drilling. And for SR-D they have a replacement soundhead plate: http://www.blsi.com/kinoton/rssd.htm

The dts reader sits just before the upper rollers on with two spacing brackets. (This photo has reel spindles, we don't but the head is still the same.)

The Dolby Digital is a basement reader.

SDDS...ha ha ha ha ha (etc)...

It sounds like the platter mount is the way to go...anyone got a picture of a platter mount?

Final question...How deep is the standard Kelmar base for the cleaner before the film path?

It's about 2 inches deep.

There are pictures of platter mounted cleaners throughout the warehouse. Try UA Galaxy for a pic.

Mounting a Cat700 and SDDS readers on a Kinoton can often cause some problems, in many older cinemas using smaller port holes the projector was close to the port so it can not always be mounted there, you can't mount it on back because heat from the lamp house can cause some problems with the CCD board, so that only leave the top, and if you have a low ceiling you got problems.
