As I was building up Bless the Child, I noticed that the first reel was not SDDS encoded. This didn't concern me too greatly seeing as we have no SDDS houses. My only wory was that there could be other problems with that reel. Luckily there weren't. So, does anyone else have a non-SDDS first reel?

We have a complete non-SDDS print. Actually, I'm wondering if the blue edge coloring is confusing you, as Paramount stopped printing in SDDS a long time ago. Are you actually seeing little bits of data on the edges like the SRD track that is in between the sprocket holes?

Brad hit the nail on the head I think. Both of my prints of 'Bless the Child' have blue edges but are definately not SDDS. Paramount only uses SDDS on it's really big realeases (MI2, Star Trek, etc.).

My print of 'Bless' is SRD/DTS/SR only, no SDDS. However, the attached trailer on some other non-SDDS prints CAN have an SDDS track, as it was there on the trailer prior to printing. After the trailers ends the SDDS track goes away. When in doubt, check the soundtracks PAST the attached trailers (if the heads and tails dont specify a sound format)Aaron

Look at the "SDDS" track with a magnifying loupe (an old short focal length 16mm or Super-8 projection lens serves as a great high quality magnifying glass that will give fairly high magnification). If it is indeed an SDDS track, you should be able to see the bits quite easily. SDDS normally prints to expose only the cyan dye layer on the prints.Radio Shack and Edmund Scientific both sell high magnification pocket magnifiers. I have a 30X Radio Shack battery-illuminated pocket microscope that I use to look at sprocket tooth damage or other small objects.
