Is there anything you can do (other than replacing) about a motor that is very weak? On two of my tables the motors don't have enough power to put a 6000' reel on them. It's doesn't seem like the belt is slipping, and if you give the reel a spin it will keep going but very slowly (they kinda groan too). Any ideas?

Check the grub screws on the pulleys
I have seen them slip
also check the rectifier in the control box to see if it is only operating 1/2 wave
also check the amount of drag on the dummy end

I used one for many years and had to change the the motor brushes a few times. One side is easy to get to, but the other side is up against the bottom of the table.I would also check the belts; a reel should probably not spin free at all. The older Kelmars I used had two belts in it; there's a jackscrew arrangement in the head to gear the motor down. So, one belt goes from the motor to a shaft and there's another belt /pulley that goes to from that shaft to the shaft that the spindle is on.
Gordon's right about the rectifier; they go once in a while.

I should amend my comment.. I was thinking about regular rewind tables.But, a loose belt and brushed are still worth looking in to. Sorry about that, cheif..
