I don't know if any of you guys watch "Fresh Gear" on ZDTV, but today they showed a DLP Panasonic TV that will be available in September for 13,000.00. I thought this was kind of funny since they made it sound like it was already available in most cinemas. Do we really want to change over to a new digital system that is already in the home market? With all the large screen auditoriums built over the last 5 years I would like to see an expansion of 70mm availability to smaller markets. I think 70mm presentation would kick digital's butt.

That's about all that digital cinema is good for. Home applications. 70mm is still the king.

Texas Instruments has agreements with several manufacturers to use DLP technology in high-end home theatre equipment.

Here is what was said in an April press release:

Dallas, Texas — 9th April 2000: Texas Instruments (TI)
announced today the signing of an agreement under the terms
of which Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. of Japan will
use Digital Light Processing™ technology to develop an
all-digital, large screen, high definition (HD) rear projection
television. The agreement was in fact signed during 1999, and a
joint development between the two companies has been taking
place over the past two years. The first product developed
under the terms of the agreement will be demonstrated on the
Matsushita booth at the National Association of Broadcasters
(NAB) convention currently taking place in Las Vegas,
Nevada.

TI had previously announced similar agreements with Hitachi
and Mitsubishi. "Matsushita — through their 'Panasonic' brand
name — is one of the world's premier consumer electronics
companies," said Bob England, Senior Vice President and
Manager of TI's Digital Imaging group. "As such, we're
delighted to have them working with us as we develop DLP
technology into what we hope will a leading position in the
home entertainment marketplace."

Stock tip for the day. Buy 1 share of Texas Instruments. Then sign up for the DRP, dividend reinvestment plan. The company pays for sales commissions and you can buy I beleive up to $10,000 worth of stock a year. When this does go mainstream consumer, there is alot of money to be made.
