Hello everyone,

I notice a switch on my two IREM rectifiers with "On/Off" position. One rectifier has the witch on ON position and the other one on OFF position...
What that switches does?

they were used as manual on off switchs to turn the internal contactor on or off in manual booths.

Stan is right; many times those switches are just disconnected.

In some booths, that switch was hooked up to bypass the airflow-vane switch inside the lamphouse. The idea was that if the airflow-vane switch got clogged with dust and would not operate, you could still get the lamp on and get the show running.

OF couse, a competent projectionist would never use this bypass switch unless he knew for a fact that the fan(s) were working OK, and the problem was just a clogged switch, would watch the lamp for the entire show remembering that a safety feature had been bypassed, would be there when the show ended to shut it off, and he would clean it out right after that show ended.

All of which means that while it was OK to hook up such a switch 23-30 years ago, you would *never,* *ever* do that today with usher-threader-upers.

Since my booth is completely automatic, and since I have one rectifier on "ON" and another on "OFF" they should be disconnected...
