What can you use to clean 35mm mag? I haven't been working with mag film long so I don't want to damage it just trying to clean it.Thanx.

What about it needs cleaning? My experience with magfilm is limited to editing a couple of 16mm shorts, but there really was nothing about magfilm that seemed to get dirty enough to affect the sound quality. It's far more durable than a projection print; you can drag it across the floor with no ill effect. Just don't store a reel of mag next to a rectifier or something.

Are you asking about fullcoat 35mm for the dubber?
If so MTM used to have a green roll of media about 2" dia that mounted on the dubber that the tape dragged across and deposited alny dirt or loose oxide.
A single low tac PTR will also work
Most Racal tape is damaged by any solvent or liquid cleaner

Yeah, I am talking about mag for the dubber Gord. I get a black residue on the mag right now. I have a couple of rollers that don't work and I have to go through my installer for parts and it's taking awhile. Warranty issues and all ya know.So for now, I am only running the mag when I absolutly have to, which is only on one trailer, resulting in that trailers soundtrack to be really dirty. I don't know if it is hurting the sound quality, but I still want it to be clean.

You are running the same trailer over and over with an interlocked dubber?
While I'm thinking about it; Do they still make 35mm mag stock with individual stripes on it? Or is it always just full coat nowadays?
I don't run interlocked dubbers very often, and am trying to figure out the track arrangments, etc. I wish they would standardize the EQ and level; it's a minor hassle to deal with.

You should not get much left behind from the mag unless the head cluster has a problem
Is it a Teccon or an Electro mga head init
The head makes a terrific difference
Where is the dirt being left behind? is it on the head
Also check the amount of head tension playback dubbers don't require a lot of tension compared to a striped print

The head is a Teccon, and gets some dirt on it but not much. The dirt is on the soundtrack side, not the base side. (BTW, what are the two sides called?) Most of the dirt accumulates on the inner tracks (closest to the cabinet). I figure the problem is only because of the bad rollers since I have never had this problem before and the soundtracks that I haven't been running are all clean.John, right now I am running the dubber for only one of my trailers that is on a specific print. Everything else I run is digital, so I don't have to run the dubber any other time.
